yeah that's right Code Geass R2 thread COLD OPEN
-
Raghava (who is here btw say hi) points out that this story could have easily been about an opportunist who sold out a revolution but it's not. That would require someone other than Lelouch being the protagonist
-
Or more specifically, the fundamental framing of the show. We're going to finish the episode before finishing this thought, actually. Because Lelouch isn't necessarily 100% a good protagonist either so how the show criticizes him will be important
-
she's building a second, larger nuke
-
no one seems to think she should not have built the first one
-
"Out of envy and hatred they try to pull you down" no it's bc Suzaku is a big poopoo meanie head
-
Suzaku: "Where is justice?" idk bud you're still alive so
-
Anti-Suzaku tweets are the easiest thing this account traffics in
-
they have to do an ID check for the special zone. Nothing says freedom like military checkpoints and apartheid. Code Geass has solved colonialism!
-
**coexistence
-
"Being Japanese is, like, a vibe man" ~Zero
-
So Zero invents a super complicated plan to get himself and his ethnicity deported. But wouldn't he need a complicated plan to not get deported? The Chinese Federation, with its tensions with Britannia would probably just take refugees
-
More importantly, a settler colony would probably not mind a few thousand of the ethnic underclass leaving the country. This is literally "brown people go home/somewhere else". Like many Israelis would love it if every Palestinian moved to Jordan, Lebanon, or Egypt
-
oh they wanna keep them in the country for labor okay that's probably the first good, politically accurate thing this show has done in a few episodes here
-
it immediately ruined it by saying "if the Black Knights leave Area 11 could have peace"
-
Raghava says: Code Geass recognizes that this could be a labor issue, but it doesn't care/know what to do with it
-
we have lost the plot
-
I'm sorry. Let's get deported???
-
The Chinese Federation has a special form of government that only appears in fiction called "what liberals think communism is"
-
Also framing Britannia as somehow more prosperous than the clearly less racist and imperialist alternative is... yike
-
India wants independence apparently. I wanna say based but something's not quite right here. So the Chinese Federation backs Japan over Britannia. India also backs Japan. But they want liberation from the Chinese Federation too?
-
What's happening here?
-
Why does he want to overthrow the Chinese Federation? Okay seriously this makes no sense
-
So this world has 3 countries. Britannia, The Chinese Federation, and the European Union. Also Australia but no one cares. So The EU and Britannia are in active peace negotiations, according to Britannian officials. Australia is always neutral
-
The only country with the size and diplomatic positioning to oppose Britannia is the Chinese Federation. But Lelouch wants to destabilize it and overthrow its government. Why?
-
This is like being Fidel Castro during the Cuban Missile Crisis and saying "We need to destabilize the USSR. It's the only way to defeat America"
-
So even Britannia understands that they need to make peace with The Chinese Federation if they want to defeat the nascent Japanese liberation movement. So why does Lelouch want to overthrow them?
-
Suzaku: "Did the empress consent to this marriage?" Suzaku she is a child
-
Switching to 1.25 speed also Nina is not okay
-
So the High Eunics (sp?) are selling Zero out immediately. Which makes us wonder why take him in in the first place
-
we are past the singularity and the writing of the show has broken down
-
So they're playing chess. Schneizel moves his king into the way of Lelouch's king thus putting it in danger (illegal). He then declares checkmate (it's not). Lelouch says if he captures the opposing king, he wins (not how that works)
-
she's still racist
-
Why does Nina get so much sympathy when she's an actual racist (she was racist in this scene) who would rather nuke minorities than live next to one
-
I honestly did not think R2 would be this terrible I am surprised. And yet, there are little moments where the show is right about stuff in ways that season one was not. It's a weird situation I'm in. That's it for now
