I will say I'm a little bit skeptical of the apparent push to rename the #CHAZ to #CHOP
-
Even though I'm an anarchist, it's not dropping the "autonomous" bit that actually makes me nervous, believe it or not. To me "autonomous" has always meant "this community runs itself and distributes resources according to need" and not "this is a project in nation-building"...
-
... but if the word "autonomous" makes the right scream "succession" and "treason" I don't mind dropping it.
-
It's actually the "P" for protest, and the fact that the people pushing #CHOP the hardest are also the people pushing reform over abolition. I'm especially skeptical of people then saying #CHAZ was always a meme/joke/right-wing narrative as if it wasn't anarchists who started it
-
"Autonomous Zone" might feed into the right-wing hate machine quite easily, but it also implies a permanent change in the city of Seattle and a desire to end policing everywhere...
-
"Occupied protest" is inherently temporary. It implies that the precinct is being held temporarily until police *reform* (not abolition) happens, after which it'll be given back to SPD and things will go back to how they were.
-
And oh look at that liberal reformists are negotiating with the city on behalf of the protesters, silencing more radical voices. How curious a situation! That these two things would occur at around the same time. 🙂🤔 @archietheshycon/1271879317459398656

The left/lib relationship is fucking abusive. Leftists do all the work of challenging power, and then libs come in, gaslight, take all the credit and get all the glowing media coverage.

Idk, I'm not in Seattle. If the people there really believe in CHOP over CHAZ, then I will too out of solidarity. I do know that this site, run by leftists on the ground, rejects CHOP, and my instincts tell me to do so too caphillauto.zone
