  1. I think I'll jot down my one (1) serious thread about the #CHAZ Ultimately the voices we should be amplifying are the voices of the people of Seattle, but if I have an online presence at all it's precisely to combat misinformation and right-wing narratives (1/10)

Keep in mind there's an active right-wing campaign to make the CHAZ look as bad as possible. They found some LGBT teenager and labeled them the "leader" of the CHAZ, called them an abuser, and forced them off the Internet. (2/)

The right would have us believe that homeless people stole all the food and they're starving on the streets rummaging through the trash for meals. This was proven to be factually incorrect by eyewitness accounts. There's plenty of food and water. (3/)

I've heard stories of Raz Simone and other "warlords" patrolling the streets enforcing law by gunpoint. And while Raz seems like trouble to me, I've also literally never heard anyone in the CHAZ mention him at all. (4/)

People and (non-far right) news organizations documenting the Zone's timeline don't mention the rise of warlords enforcing order, so the threat seems largely overblown. (5/) chaz.zone/

The right is setting up the CHAZ as the ultimate endstate of antifa. To them, anarchism is an especially incoherent, infantile form of communism that leads to mass starvation, theft from the unwashed homeless masses, and gangs of armed blacks patrolling the streets... (6/)

...Only under the glory of authoritarian capitalism can Western Civilization blah blah blah. They're projecting their fantasy of a leftist dystopia onto this and won't stop until you believe it's reality (7/)

Which brings me to what the CHAZ is and is not. It's not The Revolution™ or the end of Western Civilization as we know it. It's just a neighborhood that's collectively sick of police oppression and saw an opportunity to run things without them. (8/)

People are literally cumming to send in the military on what is, in effect, a community center with free pizza and a garden. It's 6 whole blocks! Insane. (9/)

As has been said already, don't believe anything you hear unless you can verify the person who said this is in Seattle. And if you're a leftist outside the city this is not your movement to start commandeering things from behind a keyboard (10/10)
